Wellcome Collection is looking for one last venue to host Georgie Meadows: Stitched Drawings, available immediately. The exhibition has travelled to eighteen venues across the UK from community art centres to hospital waiting areas and has received over 200,000 visitors.
Georgie Meadows: Stitched Drawings brings together 24 textile artworks which explore personal experiences of ageing and dementia. Meadows, a Monmouth based artist and retired occupational therapist, crafts uniquely affecting and compassionate portraits inspired by people she knows or has cared for. The works reinforce the importance of visual communication in the act of caring, when logic and speech are often elusive. Meadows’ works are also a testament to courage and resilience in the face of a loss of control and identity.
Meadows’ work inspires deep emotional reaction in visitors, with comments being fed back from venues including: “Georgie Meadows pictures are beautiful, full of feeling and empathy. They moved me to tears.”; “They are wonderful stories. We all know somebody in these pictures”; “Loved the stitched drawings. A wonderful insight into elderly care and so very moving!”.
There is no hire fee, but the venue is expected to cover the costs associated with hosting, including artist fee, insurance and transport. If this is posing a barrier, do reach out and we can discuss ways to support you.
