The Exhibitions Group has launched a landmark new report that sheds light on the vital yet under-recognised role of temporary and touring exhibitions within the UK’s cultural sector.
Commissioned by The Exhibitions Group, supported by Arts Council England and delivered by Cultural Associates Oxford, the study offers one of the most comprehensive analyses of exhibition practice to date.
Drawing on a nationwide survey, in-depth interviews and expert roundtables, the report reveals significant gaps in strategic planning, impact measurement and sector-wide collaboration – despite exhibitions being central to audience engagement, partnership-building and income generation.
Alongside highlighting key challenges, from skills shortages to funding barriers, the research sets out a clear roadmap of practical recommendations to help cultural organisations unlock the full potential of exhibitions and build a more sustainable, inclusive and evidence-led future for the sector.
