Bold New Exhibition Celebrates 20 Historical Women Who Changed the World in Hull Museums Quarter
A vibrant and inspiring new art exhibition, 20 Historical Women Who Changed the World, has opened in Hull across two of Hull’s key cultural venues – the Streetlife Museum of Transport and Wilberforce House Museum.
Created by Doncaster-based artist Chinwe Russell, this bold, colourful collection of portraits honours the achievements of twenty extraordinary women from across history. Spanning figures from the 1500s to the present day, the works feature well-known icons such as Marie Curie, Zaha Hadid and Florence Nightingale alongside lesser-known but equally impactful change-makers. The exhibition celebrates the courage, creativity and legacy of women whose contributions continue to shape society and culture.
Running from 13 February to 12 April 2026, the exhibition is free to enter and suitable for all ages. Audiences are invited to explore the thought-provoking portraits at both the Streetlife Museum and Wilberforce House Museum, located within Hull’s Museums Quarter.
20 Historical Women Who Changed the World encourages visitors to reflect on the diverse stories of women who have challenged norms, pioneered innovation and fought for equality – offering fresh perspectives on history and heritage. The dual-venue format enhances the experience by placing this compelling artwork within two distinct cultural settings in the heart of the city.
