We run this virtual training annually and anticipate running it again in summer 2026.
This live virtual training over two online sessions, guides participants through the complete lending and borrowing process when borrowing from UK public museums and galleries.
The training covers the perspective of both the lender and borrow to provide a holistic understanding of the process, with an emphasis on building the knowledge and confidence of staff and volunteers in borrowing organisations.
This is a live and interactive training based on discussion and problem solving, covering:
- The benefits of borrowing
- Researching suitable objects for loan
- Making a case to borrow
- Communicating with lenders
- Loan applications
- Fees and contracts
- Potential sources of funding in the UK
- Scheduling
- Transportation
- Facilities reports
- British Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS)* and UK commercial insurance
- Security
- Emergency planning
The training is delivered by an experienced TEG Training and Zoom breakout rooms are used for discussions and activities in small groups. The number of participants is capped at 24 to support an interactive learning experience.
* HM Government provides Government Indemnity and the GIS team Arts Council England arrange the indemnity.
