Finding Balance, an exhibition by JPR Stitch at Torre Abbey – A success story!
JPR Stitch (aka. Dr. Jack Roberts), is a textile artist creating abstract artworks from machine embroidery. After seeing his exhibition on TEG, Torre Abbey reached out to start conversations about collaborating on an exhibition and now, the exhibition ‘Finding Balance’ is open to the public.
Elaine Ward, Senior Operations Co-ordinator at Torre Abbey said –
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Jack regarding the JPR Stitch Finding Balance Exhibition. He is very easy to work with and a consummate professional. It has been great to get to know the ethos behind the exhibition and the talented artist behind the works of art. The exhibition itself is wonderfully laid out and is a lovely example of mixed media all relating to the art of stitching.”
JPR Stitch’s practice is about capturing a sense of calmness and balance within the art. The exhibition brings together two bodies of work, his quick and loose ‘daily stitchings’ one of which is created each and every day, and his bold, bright and heavily embroidered pieces.
Bringing this exhibition of JPR Stitch’s work to the Grade 1 Listed ‘Torre Abbey’ provides a lens to explore how different people find calmness and balance within their lives – through place, art, or by other means. Torre Abbey, with a history of over 800 years, has been a monastery, a family home and is now a museum. It is a haven away from the busy town that surrounds it, the gardens, buildings and monastic ruins evoke a sense of peace and calm, giving space for sanctuary and contemplation for those who seek it.
JPR Stitch said –
We live in a busy world, with noise and distractions at every turn, but occasionally, we need to take time to stop, reflect, rebalance, taking a moment to find calm.
It is hoped that the exhibition encourages viewers to slow down, observe the threads and reflect.
